Interesting things
worth making a note of when I’ve had time to read my emails and feeds, since
the last Tech Roundup!
Fig. Without/With IntelliCache
With stuff from: Citrix, HP, Microsoft,
NetApp,
Riverbed, USB
Network Gate, Veeam, VMware, and Vyatta!
### Citrix ###
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Citrix\PNAgent
: “SuppressURLPromptAtLogin”=DWORD:00000001
Excellent PDF document
for understanding how XenServer IntelliCache helps to optimize performance of
your VMs, with best practices, and a how to guide!
### HP ###
And about time too!
Think/compare: NetApp SnapManager, Compellent Replay Manager, EqualLogic Auto-Snap
Manager… Requires Windows server mounting an iSCSI attached volume(s) on the
LeftHand SAN.
HP “… has unveiled
virtualization software that will allow cloud services providers (CSPs) to more
easily move VMs from one data center to another.”
“HP’s secret sauce
involves:
·
HP Ethernet Virtual Interconnect
(EVI)
·
HP Multitenant Device Context
(MDC)
·
HP StoreVirtual virtual storage
appliance (VSA)”
Note: The HP
LeftHand VSA has been renamed the HP StoreVirtual VSA.

### Microsoft ###
LOL – V2V conversion
of VMware vSphere virtual machines to Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines via VMware’s
own vSphere client!
1. Visit this
TechNet blog.
2. Try using Oracle
VM VirtualBox in order to open unbootable vhd files.
3. Partition Guru from

It is to do with
the update sequence number (USN) getting out of sync with other domain
controllers, thus causing an inconsistent state. This particular ‘issue’
(although it isn’t really an issue, it’s by design) has been resolved in Server 2012 which
now means you can snapshot or clone your DCs (but this only works with a Server 2012 Hyper-V Host
and activated Domain Controller Option for the DC.)
### NetApp ###
### Riverbed ###
### USB Network Gate ###
“… easily connects
one or more remote USB devices to your computer over Ethernet …”
### Veeam ###
Post from
DiscoPosse, on how “with
Linked Mode vCenter configuration, we no longer have the ability to run an
across the wire clone or Storage vMotion”, you can use VeeamZIP to migrate your VMs.
### VMware ###
“This release is
functionally identical to vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1a but also includes the fix for the issue
encountered when upgrading with an Oracle database.”
Take homes from the
KB:

Excellent how to
from MWPreston’s blog!
“… clusters can
enter an inconsistent state when placed into cluster maintenance mode using the
vSphere Storage Appliance Manager.”
“Log Insight
represents the latest potential tool for managing and troubleshooting physical,
virtual and cloud environments.” Going up against the likes of Kaseya, Nimsoft,
and Boundary, and sounds a bit like eGInnovations.
## Vyatta ##
Excellent how to
from Mohammed of The Stifford Academy!
We are facing constant growing of data amount in both the Web and personal computers. And the more information we need to proceed the more time it takes. That is why I think cloud technology is perfect for world’s needs today. I would also use Ideals as a repository.
