NetApp VSC 4.1 Series - Part 7/7: Single File Restore

In this example, we have a file on our desktop called ‘VIP FILE’. The backup has been run and the file subsequently shift-deleted.

vSphere Client > Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters (or the ‘VMs and Templates’ view)
- Select the VM we want to do a Single File Restore from
- And click the ‘Single File Restore’ button

- Select the Source VM, the Destination VM (can be the same), the Recipient email address (s) (must be filled in), Sender email address, Mount expiration, and click Next >

Add Single File Restore Session - Step 3: Guest File Restore Backups
*This step is skipped is Self-Service is selected in Step 2

Add Single File Restore Session - Step 3: Guest File Restore Summary Page
- Review the summary and - if all is okay - click Finish

Apologies! This is as far as I can go with my lab setup (which currently doesn’t have an Exchange server). If the SMVI default email notification settings are not set at this stage, when you click finish, the wizard will error as below. Hopefully this post is sufficient to give an idea of what the single file restore process involves.

Image: Error - Please set the SMVI default email notification settings and then try again

PS If there are enough requests (comments), I’ll get an Exchange box setup and complete this post when I get a chance!
